Im Frühjahr des letzten Sommers fand Liquid Video zum ersten Mal statt: mit Vorträgen und Vorführungen von renommierten Künstlern wie Pfadfinderei, Flora & Fauna und anderen in den Räumen der Berliner Technischen Kunstschule (BTK). Es wurde diskutiert und bis in den frühen Morgen hinein gefeiert. Die Atmosphäre war großartig. Und sie markierte atmosphärisch den Wandel der BTK zu einer Hochschule, bevor dieser auch offiziell im März dieses Jahres vom Berliner Senat bestätigt wurde.

Ab Oktober startet die Berliner Technische Kunsthochschule, eine neue Hochschule für Gestaltung, ihren Lehrbetrieb. Weil Design mehr sein kann als Kommunikation - nämlich Design von Erlebnissen und Erfahrungen - sind die Themen, mit denen sich Liquidvideo beschäftigt, in die neuen Studiengänge an der Hochschule mit aufgenommen worden. Innerhalb des Studiums Kommunikationsdesign widmet sich besonders die Studienrichtung Visual- und Motiondesign diesen Medientätigkeiten an der Grenze zwischen Film, Grafik, 3D, Musik und Raum.

Die Initiatoren von Liquid Video sind Dozenten an der BTK. Sie haben im letzten Jahr bereits die erste Veranstaltungsreihe entwickelt, ab Oktober werden sie dazu Ästhetiken und Methoden des Visual- und Motiondesigns lehren. Liquid Video ist darüber hinaus Teil eines erweiterten Studienkonzeptes, das zwischen öffentlichen Veranstaltungsreihen und Hochschulprojekten keine klaren Grenzen mehr ziehen möchte, sondern einen regelmäßigen Austausch nach außen als wesentliches Element eines zeitgemäßen Designstudiums versteht.

Liquid Video may first took place at the Berliner Technische Fachschule in early Summer last year with presentations from interesting speakers such as "Pfadfinderei" and "Flora und Fauna", to mention only a few.

Afterwards, in an atmosphere that can only be described as grandiose, people remained behind to discuss the themes and party until early hours of the morning. This reminded me of similiar, spectacular presentations in the Berliner and Hamburger College of Art during my days as a student. This atmosphere marked the BTK's transition to University status, which was officially confirmed by the Senate in March this year.

VJing, Scenographic Design, Ambient Video and Motion Graphics have become playing fields for the ambitious and creative designer. Such designers have simultaneously attracted much public interest and established themselves as a very current and lively form of Berlin culture - a culture which draws evermore attention to itself.

Afterall, as design is so much more than just Communication,  the Berliner Technische Kunsthochschule has included these current disciplines as exciting new areas of study in its future curriculum. The new Visual & Motion Design course, especially, understands and facilitiates the media activities between film, graphics, 3D, music and space and also broadens the Communication Designer's traditional area of work.

The initiators of Liquid Video are lecturers from the the BTK themselves. They successfully put together the first event and, this semester, they will delve deeper into the aesthetics and methods of the new arena of Visual and Motion Design.

The event that takes place this year is part of an enhanced study concept that doesnt differentiate between public events and university projects but rather allows a regular public exchange as an integral part of contemporary and modern design studies.
